Asylum policy

Asylum seekers may be given asylum in the Netherlands if they need protection from persecution in their own country on account of their race, religion, nationality or beliefs. Or if they are at risk of torture should they return. The Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) assesses whether an asylum seeker genuinely needs protection. Special rules apply to unaccompanied minor asylum seekers. Municipalities help foreign nationals who are granted asylum to find a place to live.
